A brother takes his little sister out for a visit to the
grandparents for the first time. In order to get to the
grandparents house, they have to cross a shallow river
with big old step stones - a small child has to jump
from one to the other to get to the other side. The
brother skips across quite happily and turns around to
find that his little sister got stuck right in the
middle and now can't go forward, nor can she go back.
She is scared and crying.
"Come and get me!" she begs. The brother shouts back,
"What's the matter? Are you afraid?" - "Yes," she cries,
"I can't move!" The brother thinks for a moment and then
says, "You know there is a magical plant on this side.
You come and get it and you won't be afraid any more." -
"Really?" asks the little girl. "Really," says the
brother. The little girl picks up her feet and carefully
crosses the rest of the river. She stands before her
brother on the safety of the shore, looks up at him.
"Where's that flower?" she asks. |
